It’s been a while since I posted, but things have been a bit slow due to the rain.  October was mainly dry, but it all changed in November.  And the last few days have been extremely cold.  But things have moved on, in spite of the weather.  The roof is traditionally built, which means that the carpenters cut and fit every piece of timber - and there is a lot of it.  Most roofs are trusses now, which come ready made and therefore much quicker to fit.  But a traditional roof is definitely the best option.  Being a chalet bungalow means that there are dormer and velux  windows upstairs, which also have to be cut and fitted.

There are decisions to be made daily now.  Windows, doors - interior and exterior - kitchen, bathrooms, position of power points - it goes on and on.  We went to finalise our kitchen plan last week, which was very exciting.  We have moved many times during our 55 years of marriage and this will probably be our last kitchen, so I want it to be just right.  I’ve gone for my favourite colour for a kitchen - green - again but a darker shade this time. My present kitchen is sage green but the new one will be willow - sort of an olive green.  We’re also having very nice appliances.  I’m saying goodbye to my beloved range cooker and saying hello to an eye level oven which, would you believe, connects to the internet, as do most of the appliances.  Don’t ask me why but I’m sure I’ll find out at some point.  We were also tempted by a very posh bean to cup coffee machine, which we hadn’t planned for.  I expect that connects to the internet as well.  I dread to think what might happen if the internet goes pear shaped.  But, our wood burner is going to have a small oven on the top of it so if there is a Zombie apocalypse we will at least be warm and able to make a stew.  During COVID we binged every series of the Walking Dead, so we are well prepared.

By my next post we should be weathered in.  The carpenters should finish the roof next week and then the tilers are booked in to felt, batten and the tile the roof.  That’s quite a milestone because then the weather can do it’s worst.

View from the en suite bathroom

and our bedroom. It will get

better

The photos show the roof in its present state, and the views that we will have from our bedroom and bathroom windows.  Will be lovely once the garden is back to its former glory instead of a quagmire.

Hasta la próxima 👋
